Gerald Wong

Founder | Financial Adviser | Mortgage Broker

Gerald brings to Optalife very diverse and impressive set of skills.

He grew up in Mauritius, but along with his beautiful wife and two daughters, has called Melbourne home for over a decade. Gerald’s journey started as a mortgage broker, which gives him a unique understanding when speaking with, and advising his clients. Now his number one focus is protecting his clients and what they have worked hard to achieve. Gerald’s passion is going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure his clients get a qualité supérieure (top quality) level of service.

When not in the office Gerald can be found watching either his true passion Liverpool, or his other true passion, the movie Frozen. One of those, however, may be less his passion and more that he has two daughters under the age of four. Regardless, he is wholeheartedly Team Elsa.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part would have to be the reward I feel when I can see my clients are closer to achieving whatever their goal maybe, like their dream home. I really feel like I am helping people, which is something that’s always been important to me.

Seeing the smile on my clients face when they get the keys to their house and to reflect on their journey, they went on to achieve this goal.

What does your oldest daughter want to be when she grows up?

It changes almost daily! Some of the most recent answers have been: Doctor - to put a stethoscope on and listen to people’s heartbeat, a Space Woman (Astronaut), a Police Officer - to catch naughty people and also a Nurse - to give injections and put on band aids.

What skill would you like to master?

I am currently learning to speak Mandarin. It’s really important to me because my wife’s family is in Malaysia, and when we go to visit them, speaking Mandarin will make communication significantly easier. I'm currently trying to learn from my oldest daughter’s children's books, but it's not going so well!

What fad or trend do you hope comes back?

I cannot wait until we all can wear Parachute Pants again! They are the baggy pants that we all wore in the 90s. They remind me the Backstreet Boys and I love the nostalgia that they bring.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

I could not look past becoming a father. For me that was a life changing moment, where I realised that nothing else mattered to me nearly much as their happiness.

On a professional level, founding Optalife and seeing its growth over the years makes me proud.
